Manual Metal Arc Welding

Manual Metal Arc Welding is considered the most commonly used steel fabrication process generally in most forms of industry. The efficiency and flexibility of MMA equipment allows it to be the primary method for routine maintenance and repair steel fabrication.

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding

TIG Welding can be a great way of addressing on-site welding issues. Particularly in maintenance welding, it is used to repair tools and dies in components such as aluminum and magnesium.

Some of the main benefits of TIG welding are:

No sparks or spatter

Because only the necessary amount of filler metal is added to the welding puddle, no spatter or sparks are produced (if the metal being welded is clean).

No flux or slag

Because the Argon gas protects the weld puddle from contamination, no flux is required or used in TIG welding and there is no slag to block your view of the weld puddle. Also, the finished weld will not have slag to remove between weld passes.

No smoke or fumes

TIG welding does not create smoke or fumes, unless the base metal being welded contains contaminants or elements such as, oil, grease, paint, lead or zinc. The base metal should be cleaned before welding.

MIG Welding

Metal Inert gas (MIG) Welding, occasionally referred to as Metal Active Gas (MAG) Welding, is a method of steel fabrication that can be semi-automatic or automatic.
This gives it a versatility and speed that make it a common choice for a lot of industry welding. The welding time in particular can make it the best solution for emergency on-site steel fabricators.

Although MIG Welding was developed for the fabrication of aluminum and nonferrous metals, it can now be successfully applied to steels.

SG Services have safety in mind for all work that we undertake. Because of the dangers in using MIG Welding in areas of air volatility, we rarely use MIG welding as a solution to any site that is outdoors.

What is the difference between MIG welding and TIG welding?

The difference between the two is the way the arc is used. MIG (metal inert gas) welding uses a feed wire that constantly moves through the gun to create the spark, then melts to form the weld. TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding uses long rods to fuse two metals directly together.
