What is Structural Steel Used For?
The Construction Industry has used steel fabrication services for many, many years. Why? Because structural steel provides a lot of benefits, especially in construction.
The main reason is that it is amongst the strongest building materials. Some of the tallest buildings in the world are made using steel including the tallest Burj Khalifa in Dubai which is 828 meters high!
Fun fact, the Eifel Tower is not made from steel, but iron.
Steel is an alloy made of iron and carbon containing less than 2% carbon and 1% manganese and small amounts of silicon, phosphorus, sulphur and oxygen. Steel is the world’s most important engineering and construction material.
As alloy is more affordable, it is regularly used for larger areas. Therefore, it has become very common to use in warehouse constructions.
Steel is also light in weight meaning it is easy to set up and move. And, it’s environmentally friendly! A UK study showed that 94% of steel is recycled when a building is demolished. Over 99% of steel from scrap cars is recycled.
